That is Amazing (WoW)!

Things that interest me. Mostly video games.

Reputation Time

I am sure everyone knows by now, but the spirit of sharing buff that you get for eating five servings of each of the Pilgrim’s Day foods at any table is good for a 10% bonus to reputation gains.

Why is this important? Because I am a reputation whore and am working on no less than 5 reputations, in an attempt to get them to exalted (6 if you count Lower City who I am only Honored with).

  • Five Sanguine Hibiscus gets you 825 rep (non-human) with Sporregar.
  • Coilfang Armaments are good for 82 and 83 rep with Cenarian Expedition (up from 75).
  • Kills in any dungeon in Outlands that give rep is up by 10% as well.
  • Ogri’la Dailies give an additional 10%.

Now is the perfect time to be farming reputations. I am trying to get 30 before Cataclysm, I am revered or better with:

  • Frenzyheart
  • Sporregar
  • Cenarian Expedition
  • Argent Dawn
  • Hmm, i think there are more, but can’t remember right now.

Hopefully I can knock these all out this week. While the 10% buff is doing its wonderful thing. Really, though the intent of this post is to galvanize those of you who are oh so close to finish your rep grinds. I have a feeling we are all going to be too busy to do so over the next few weeks.

Profit: Day 1

Ok, so before I go too much into it, I am starting really small. I do not have a lot of capital to start so I am going to play the AH in small chunks until I get the whole thing figured out.

Soon I will be dealing in everything to include cocaine muskets. (Note, color = Faction)

I leveled my DK to 58, got her to Stormwind and have 20G53S. Nagtodeath

I moved my wife’s lvl 24 Rogue to Booty Bay, she has 58G 78S. Liselle (Yes David Eddings Reference)

My main banker is in Org and has 1524G 36S. Maghu (Another David Eddings Reference) (I love this Author)

Other toons don’t count as they will not be participating in this experiment. Maghu will NOT be sharing his funds. I am not ballsy enough yet to start with nothing, but I don’t want to pad the experiment either. If Maghu puts stuff in the horde AH, he will foot the bill for the deposit/mailing/AH cuts. He will also keep all money that comes in from the AH, but he will share profits.

So I start with a grand total of – 79G31S

Liselle is just hanging in Booty Bay, phase two begins after phase one which is:

Nagtodeath spent 36S each on 8 cats for a grand total of 2G88S, spent 6S flying from SW to BB and 15S each on 8 cats to list on Neutral AH, for a grand total of 4G14S initial investment or 52S per cat. I listed all 8 for 5 gold each. These were the only ones on the AH, so I am not sure if this is a good price or not. This morning I had sold two of the kitties, after the AH cut, I earned 9G10S.

/number crunch

I doubled my investment! I now have 88G41S and have only sold 1/4 of my stock.

So, this post will probably be boring for most, but I have to document this crap in order to make sure I am not screwing it up. I will come back and read it to make sure I don’t make the same mistakes twice.

I am not going to go run and put up a bunch of kitties on the neutral AH, but I will make sure my stock is replenished for the weekend. I am also not afraid to cancel auctions and repost below. As long as my listing price is higher than my IpK (investment per kitty) I will be happy. If this turns out to not be profitable, I will try the kitties on the Horde AH. If that works, I will be putting the cockroaches/snakes in the Alliance AH. There are always cockroaches/snakes in the neutral AH since there are som many horde on my server.

That leads me to another interesting point. I of course scanned all three AH before I started. There were approximately 10K auctions on the horde side, 90 Auction in the Neutral, and 4k Auction in the Alliance. Interestingly enough, the Alliance and horde prices were really really close. Which surprised me, I assumed there would be a huge discrepancy in the prices. I know buying low and selling high is not a great way to make money, but I think it is different if you are playing two different markets.

Which brings me to one more point…

Cleared 10 ToCr last night on my first shot in. Got some flaming cool shoulders and had to listen to the jokes about flamers and such for a few minutes. Those shoulders replaced my last T7 piece. And I still don’t have the Epic Achiev…stoopid cloak.

Evening Project…Need a Volunteer Warlock

Perusing the internets will often times lead to interesting experiments. Today, I was reading this article at Only 10 More Points (great site BTW). You will notice the post is a month old, and the comments allude to this being nerfed already.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury, I have a 64 warlock. I tested it out. It works. It really, really does. As of today, if you party up with a lock, and said lock offs him/herself you both/all get tokens. I got about 45 in probably 30 minutes.

Most of that time was spend moving from Thrallmar to Halaa, and herbing along the way.

Couple key points to make first:

  • Take the summoning sickness, otherwise your rez timer is prohibiting the amount of tokens you can get.
  • Since the Lock is taking summoning sickness and (at least the one I am asking to do this) has a lot of Ulduar/25 Naxx, Maly gear, the repair bill is still gonna be astronomical if the gear is in your bags. It will be much cheaper to leave the gear in your bank.
  • Hang out at the Graveyard, you have to own Halaa for this to work. Nobody has to leave the Graveyard.
  • If you are the Warlock, lifetap as much as you can, then /cast hellfire, lifetap takes health faster but will fizzle so you can’t die.

That is all.

New Warlock Guide Love

An important part of playing this game is changing and or modifying strategies. That being said I will link two posts.

First This post is an affliction warlock grind guide that I wrote.

Second is from Arioch posting about leveling her priest. The most pertinent thing we need to take out of her post (in reference to this post) is

I’m using mouseover macros for all the healing.

/cast [target=mouseover,help] [] spell name

It’s awesome sauce. I could even toss off a wand shot every now and again since I never had to target any of my party members.

So I get to thinking. If she can mouseover for heals, why can’t I do it for destroying shit? The answer is…I can. And I will.

Here is what I did.

Step 1. Create two macros that look like this:

#showtooltip Corruption
/cast [target=mouseover,harm] Corruption

#showtooltip Curse of Agony
/cast [target=mouseover,harm] Curse of Agony

Step 2. Change your keybindings for your mouse button. MWD = the corruption macro, MWU = the CoA macro.

Step 3. Get DoTimers addon, configure it to show mouseover DOTs (thanks arioch BTW, for recommending a great addon)

Step 4. Grab as many mobs as you feel you can handle, continue following my last guide, except just hover your mouse over various mobs to see how the DOTs are ticking.

Step 5. Rinse and repeat. Over and over…its called a grind for a reason. 🙂

BTW, loving the lock. Sorry to the mage community out there. My mage is fun, but on hiatus for a little bit, just liking the lock too much.

Oh and quick tip, fel guard is a fine replacement for the succubus, he does a little less damage, but the mana bonus and dark pact pool are great. Also, try not to clip more than 1 tick from your CoA. It is best if you don’t clip it at all IMO. I also did some experimenting with the Imp again, this time adding the Fire Shield damage to the Imp’s damage to see if there was benefit. There was not. Though the Fire shield is cool to put on your tank I found out.

Getting back on track and a Warlock Guide

I am back.

Work had me cavorting up and down the East Coast.

Homework had me spending much of the sketchy internet time I had trying to post VB projects to a blackboard. The system is great, if your internet is great.

Consequently, not much playing got done.

Still have things to say
I cannot ever run out
of real cool tidbits

How about the impromptu haiku … whoa that rhymes too … even more, that makes a slue … wtf this is ridiculous

Apparently my muse has been busy as I took this last week off to study and work.

I am getting into the swing of things, so my posting schedule will be back to its mostly every weekday or so.

Things I did do –
Raids – Was invited into one raid for 10 Naxx with the new guild. Someone less geared needed stuff and I needed nothing, so I dropped. No big deal.

Got to know the new guild even better. It is nice to know that even when I am studying, I find myself wanting to get into vent with these noobs and talk to them because they are cool. My wife is not in the guild (she is in a leveling guild and has free access to everything in the bank and all 3 tabs, so she gets a lot of benefit from being in there), and the guild has accepted her as a member anyway (I secretly think they like her more than me).

I leveled some on my mage got her out of the ghostlands and did some stuff. She is now resting in Tarren Mill with the wife’s rogue. I think we are level 23 ish. Really have not had the opportunity to play her much.

My Warlock on the other hand. Well, I know I said I would not play any other toons until I leveled Medhiva to 80. I apparently lied.

I was bored, had completed my hunter’s dailies, the wife wasn’t on, and I wanted to play. I can’t play the mage if the rogue isn’t with me (part of the deal i guess). I decided to give the ol’ lock another run.

Vanddora, had been leveling demonology. I was having fun. She was 43. She had lots of rested XP.

I had not played her since the last time Blizzard conveniently refunded all talent points. So, talking to a couple buddies who have locks I decided to give affliction a go.

It is incredible. Granted the hunter was my first toon and I really didn’t know what I was doing while leveling (not that I do with the lock either), but I can take 14 Bloodsail pirates at a time. AND I AM WEARING CLOTH!!

Granted I can only do that much because I have the additional CD to blow (Lifeblood FTW).

Intermission: I took a break and rode my motorcycle home for lunch, only to be caught in a torrential downpour. Illinois weather FTW!!

Here is how I, the uber leet leve 49 soon to be 50, do it.

Step 1. Pull out succubus. I have tried all the available demons with different results:
Voidwalker – Great for tanking, but does not do as much dps. IT won’t matter if you have a tank using this grind method. You will get hit regardless, probably by all the mobs you are trying to pull. Trust me, it is OK.
Imp – Fire Shield is nice. Would use him if I don’t have shards to summon succubus.
Felhound – Nice Mana to pull off with Dark Pact, but ultimately, damage done is the second least.
Succubus – most damage, make sure you turn the auto seduce off.

Step 2. Find a group of mobs that are kind of close together or at least close enough that you can run around and DOT ’em all up.

Step 3. Put on Demon Armor.

Step 4. Double Check Demon Armor.

Step 5. Use your cool little spell shard for your weapon.

Step 6. Make sure you have a healthstone, and a health/mana pot.

Step 7. Well fed?

Step 8. Souls hard?

At this point you are ready. Just make sure all your little buffs are up constantly, and you will be able to chain pull until you run out of mana and/or health. Using my system, I run out of mobs long before I run out of mana or health.

Here is the fun part.

9. Yell your battle cry. I prefer For the Ponies – But pick what you like.

10. Run in slapping corruption on EVERYTHING you want targeting you. Your little demon chick will start systematically killing them. Don’t worry, you will hold aggro just fine.

11. Start tabbing through all the mobs around you. Make sure corruption stays up. That is what is keeping you alive (or rather siphon life is, but you know what I mean). Throw a curse out there – I prefer curse of agony, as it kills shit faster.

12. If you are a BE, pop Arcane Torrent early on. A two minute CD makes this very user friendly, 6% is nothing to laugh at either.

13. If mana is not an issue, and NightFall Procs, go ahead and throw a Shadowbolt out there instantly dealing damage to something. Since it is an instant, you can run while firing it. (OT – When are they ever gonna fix Multi-Shot for hunters?)

14. Things should be dying by now. As long as you have corruption on everything targeting you, your health should be fine. Read below for some tips and tricks in case your health/mana is not doing fine.

15. Loot ’em up buttercup. Admire the beauty of a 30 second battle laying waste to EVERYTHING in an area.

1. If your mana starts to run low, pull mana from your succubus/demon. If your health is fine pull mana from yourself. Siphon life will keep a steady stream of health coming to you.

2. Lifeblood is great. Use it if you are an herbalist. Make sure you use it at about 35-40% unless things are dying off. It is a HOT so will take a few seconds to heal you.

3. Death Coil is amazing. Use it a lot. Healing is instantly so it is a great way to get a nice chunk of health back. I think mine is about 900 ish I get back.

4. As long as you have corruption on all the targets, another great method of replenishing health is to Howl of Terror everything. As the mobs run away, you are getting healed from siphon life. Add insult to injury by using drain life as well.

That is pretty much it. I have leveled the last seven levels like this. It is amazingly fast, simple and really really fun. I have killed things higher than I should have been able to and more of them because this method is so great. Make sure you use your Cool downs though. None of them are more than 2 minutes, if that is all you have to wait to do the whole process again, well … so be it.

HAHAA – Lots of text here today. Sorry. That is what you get for me being on business all week.

Children’s Week

Children’s Week goes from 1 May through 7 May, and yes you still have time even though only 4 days remain and one of the achievements says you have to do a daily quest for five consecutive days. I did all mine in one day and got it.

I thought this weekend was going to be boring. I thought fulfilling all the Children’s week Quests were going to be a pain in the ass. The truth is…Well, kind of a pain in the ass, but not boring.

I actually spent several hours working on nothing but Children’s week Achievements. I eschewed all guild run requests and spent some very relaxing time doing nothing but PvP and escorting my little orphans all over the place.

My advice is all from the Horde Perspective. I do not have an alliance character so I don’t know where the orphans or the places they want to visit are.

Easy Stuff First

I actually had this portion all written out except for a few grid coords. While researching said coords, I came across wowhead and this page does a much better job explaining it. After the blockquote is all me baby. Quick note: Normally I do not think it is good practice to put other people’s blogs in my blog, however, I am not just providing the link because I know wowhead is NSFW, whereas this blog usually is.

Remember, even though this quote tells you to turn in your orphan, you have to keep at least one orphan until you complete all the achievements.

Apparently I lied. Read what Arioch wrote in my comments.

Turn in both your orphans and talk to either of the matrons again. She will give you a new whistle for the rest of the week.

Horde Quests

There are two orphans that Horde players can adopt during Children’s Week, each with different quests. You can adopt both orphans (at the same time, even) and complete both quest chains and obtain two cute pets per year!

Orcish Orphan
You can adopt an Orcish orphan in Orgrimmar by speaking with Orphan Matron Battlewail [70,25] and accepting her quest, Children’s Week. Use the Orcish Orphan Whistle to summon your orphan, Grunth, and complete this quest.

Once you have completed this quest, three new quests become available from your orphan:

Upon completion of all three of these quests, two new quests will become available:

Finally, you will be given a quest to return the orphan whistle to the Matron:

  • A Warden of the Horde
Return the Orcish Orphan the Matron in Orgrimmar and you will be given your choice of one from the following cute pets:

Or, if you hate pets, you can opt to select the Curmudgeon’s Payoff, which contains a measly 5G. This quest awards 3G 30S at 80 and 500 Horde Reputation! You will have the option to complete this quest again next year, so you can eventually collect all of the pets!

Blood Elf Orphan
You can adopt an Blood Elf orphan in Shattrath City by speaking with Orphan Matron Mercy [75,48] and accepting her quest, Children’s Week. Use the Blood Elf Orphan Whistle to summon your orphan, Salandria, and complete this quest.

Once you have completed this quest, three new quests become available from your orphan:

Upon completion of all three of these quests, two new quests will become available:

  • Now, When I Grow Up…
For this quest, take your Orphan to see The Tauren Chieftians, located up on a balcony at the Walk of Elders, in Silvermoon City. This quest awards 13G 23S at 80 and 250 Lower City Reputation.
  • Time to Visit the Caverns
For this quest, take your Orphan out to the Caverns of Time and bring her up to the platform where Zaladormu lies. On your way out, purchase a Toy Dragon from Alurmi, the Keepers of Time Quartermaster, to complete this quest. This quest awards 13G 23S at 80 and 250 Lower City Reputation.

Finally, you will be given a quest to return the orphan whistle to the Matron:

Once you turn in one of the orphans, pick a pet and get:

And if you are as elite as me you will get:

The other two Achievements:

These two achievements are really easy.
Bad Example consists of eating several types of sweets. The ice-cream is purchased near the Orgrimar Bank from the sweets vendor. The rest (besides tasty cupcake and delicious cake) are bought from the vendor near the Northern Dalaran Bank. The Tasty Cupcake and Delicious cake are sold by entrepreneurs on the AH, or you may get them from friends that can cook.

Contrary to the tooltip, Daily Chores does not require you to do your dailies across consecutive days. I knocked out five dailies in about 30-45 minutes and got the achievement. By the way, take your orphan fishing. It is the right thing to do.

I also got this during the conduct of my daily chores.

Battlegrounds Achievements.

This is the bane of many’s existence during this week. The achievements require you to be fast, and know where you are going, and what you are doing. I am not a big BG guy, but I have done enough to know my way around (great way to build raiding skill is to BG).

By the way, if you don’t have the Dinner Impossible Achievement, might as well get yourself five feasts. It is simple, and we will be hitting four of the five BG on the way. To get this achievement, just put a feast in the starting area of each of the BG.

You have to:
Capture a flag in Eye of the Storm
This one is not overly difficult. You just have to get the flag from the center area to one of the towers your side controls. Be fast. Use all your speed stuff and trinkets you can possibly use to get the flag to where it needs to go. And by all means, when you pick up the flag, KNOW WHAT BASES YOU CONTROL. I may have messed that one up once.

I also was lucky enough to get:

Assault a flag in Arathi Basin
Not a difficult one, just wait for the opposing side to capture an area, then, right click the flag. The down-side is, it takes 10 seconds to capture the flag, hopefully you have good defense or, nobody is around.

Return a Flag in Warsong Gultch
This one takes a little timing. Once a member of the opposing faction has been killed, he will drop the flag (assuming of course he was carrying it). Once it drops, be the first person to right click it. You will be racing all the other members that have their orphans out trying to return it so be quick. I happened to kill mine in the flag room on horde side and I was all by myself. I also got the Not in My house achievement because someone came in two seconds later so I killed them too.

Assault a Tower in Alterac Valley
This one was a royal PITA. It took me about 8 tries. Stand at the front gate. Make sure whatever speed enhancing gear/spells you have are on or ready to be activated. As soon as that door drops, run out just to the end of the ramp, mount up as soon as you are able. Then start the mad dash for one of the towers the opposing faction controls by default. The intent is to beat everyone else there. Everyone from the opposing faction is racing to get to your towers as well, so you will have very little resistance. As soon as you get to a tower ahead of everyone else, dismount and run as fast as you can up the stairs, find the flag and right click on it. You have to channel the assault for ten seconds. Damage interrupts the channel so whatever you do, don’t aggro the guards (easy at level 80). Assuming you beat the odds and the rush of other people trying to get the achievement.

That is it for the BG. This section honestly, took me the longest time of all the achievements for the title. Please, please, please don’t forget to have your orphan out when doing these achievements.

Finally, Utgarde Pinnacle.

This is a standard run-through of UP. I did it on Heroic because I am awesome, but it can be done on regular as well. Just make sure you have your orphan out when you engage the King Y.

Once you get that last Achievement, put on your new title (Patron if you are a dude, Matron if you are a chick).

Now go turn in your little dude and get the pet you desire. I went with Eggbert.
